Red - Curator tour of Kaihō @ Mudam
© Shōko Maemoto, ’BLOODY BRIDE II’, 1984 (detail). Takahashi Ryutaro Collection, Tokyo, Japan © Shōko Maemoto / Courtesy Gallery KOBAYASHI, Tokyo, Japan
Organised into thematic sections, Kaihō: Japanese Women Artists after 1945 explores the radical yet often overlooked contributions of Japanese women artists to the global artistic landscape from the post-war period to the turn of the twenty-first century. Drawing on the artists’ personal lives and creative resilience, the exhibition brings together works by Shōko Maemoto, Takako Saito, Yoshiko Shimada and Atsuko Tanaka, among many others – some of which have rarely, if ever, been shown outside of Japan.
For this special tour, Research Associate Yurika Imaseki invites the audience to see the exhibition anew through a thematic perspective: the colour red. Recurring across many of the works on display, red invites a range of associations — from the Japanese flag to abstraction, from blood to the disruptive body. These resonances offer an alternative path through the exhibition, one that opens questions of nationalism, play and women's bodily experience.
Discover the exhibition through the lens of Research Associate Yurika Imaseki.
Biography
Yurika Imaseki is a curator specialising in Japanese modern and contemporary art. She completed her MFA in Curating at Goldsmiths, University of London and has developed an interdisciplinary practice grounded in decolonial and queer feminist thought as a critical framework. Informed by these perspectives, her research as external advisor for 茶, चाय, Tea (Chá, Chai, Tea) (Horniman Museum and Gardens, London, 2023–24) explored tea cultures across transnational contexts and she carries this critical lens into her role as Research Associate for Kaihō: Japanese Women Artists after 1945. She recently completed the Mori Contemporary Art Foundation's Curator Residency Program (2026) and participated in Art Week Tokyo's Visiting Curator Programme (2025). She was a co-curator of the year-long programme Mapping Local Ecologies at Goldsmiths CCA and LVAN Relay!, organised in partnership with the Lewisham Visual Art Network. She previously served as Programming Officer (Exhibitions) at Japan House London (2023–24) and has guest-lectured at universities including Central Saint Martins, University of the Arts London.

cherry red writes and performs music for people who feel emotions deeply. She is an indie folk singer-songwriter who draws inspiration from artists as diverse as The Last Dinner Party, Folk Bitch Trio and Beth Gibbons, and her songs live in between the lands of heartbreak and hope.

Bettina Steinbrügge, Director general, and the Mudam team are delighted to invite you to the opening of the exhibition Ana Vaz: A câmera é o corpo (The Camera Is The Body).
Mudam presents the first major museum exhibition dedicated to Brazilian artist and filmmaker Ana Vaz (1986, Brasília), whose work explores the legacies of colonial modernity and their numerous repercussions on territories and their communities, whether human, animal, vegetal or spectral. Bringing together films, installations and photographic works from the past decade, A câmera é o corpo transforms the museum’s spaces into an immersive environment where images, sounds, bodies and perspectives unfold through a spatial montage meticulously composed by the artist. The exhibition is organised around a central space dedicated to encounters, performances and myriad forms of conviviality.

Sisterhood for Human Rights. Film Festival @ KulturFabrik
Nobody chooses where they are born. Almost everything else follows from it: the language we say I love you in, what we are ashamed of, whether we can walk home alone at night, whether there is a war at our feet or not.
187 nationalities live in Luxembourg. We pass each other every day on the street and know almost nothing about each other's inner lives. Sisterhood for Human Rights is a three-day attempt to look straight into that distance. We will screen documentaries that confront realities vastly different from our own, and sometimes unexpectedly close to them. Alongside the films, we are building spaces to process them together: a public lecture, a workshop painting directly onto raw film and a gathering around death. On Friday and Saturday night we clear the floor for music and movement.
This film festival will not erase the distance between us, but we hope it will give us the time and space to sit together, listen to stories we might never otherwise hear, and talk about what could come next.

déi aner drop in zine workshop @ coexist, espace w5
Yours truly has been invited by COEXIST to host one of our iconic zine workshops!
Let‘s come together to reflect our shared existence, our humanity and our duties towards one another. Drop by and make your own zine! Bring your Friends or make some along the way.
This is a drop-in workshop so you can come by whenever you like and participate for as long as you want. Material will be provided.
In an era where the existence of countless people is being weaponised every day by far-right populists to foster division; where we’ve been witnessing man-made climate breakdown and a live-streamed genocide from our phone screens; where we are more connected than ever and yet real-life community spaces are disappearing at rapid speed, we want to ask:
What does it mean to be alive right now?
How can we create meaningful communities?
How can we creatively imagine a future where all of us live free from oppression?
In light of the COEXIST exhibition’s themes, we want to come together to reflect on our shared existence, our humanity, but also our duties towards one another. As indigenous scientist and author Robin Wall Kimmerer puts it, ‘all flourishing is mutual’. We do not exist in vacuums; we are profoundly interconnected. We cannot truly thrive while others suffer. We are not truly free until everyone is free.
Zines have always been a powerful tool for building community, fostering resistance, and (re-)imagining a better world. They offer a creative way to imagine futures where everyone feels heard.
In the spirit of our zine workshop’s theme of solidarity and community, this event will be a fundraiser for The Sameer Project, a mutual aid initiative that supports the most vulnerable communities in Gaza. While it is essential to make time and space for community, we want to remain aware of the privilege we have by living in Luxembourg. The resources and comfort we often take for granted do not exist in Gaza, where people have to continuously put up with systemic oppression, genocide and apartheid. This is why we hope to express our solidarity with the people of Gaza by dedicating this fundraiser to them. Our donation-based entry fee functions on a pay-what-you-can basis, in the spirit of other mutual aid events déi aner has organized in the past.
