About the Workshop
In an era where the existence of countless people is being weaponised every day by far-right populists to foster division; where we’ve been witnessing man-made climate breakdown and a live-streamed genocide from our phone screens; where we are more connected than ever and yet real-life community spaces are disappearing at rapid speed, we want to ask:
What does it mean to be alive right now?
How can we create meaningful communities?
How can we creatively imagine a future where all of us live free from oppression?
In light of the COEXIST exhibition’s themes, we want to come together to reflect on our shared existence, our humanity, but also our duties towards one another. As indigenous scientist and author Robin Wall Kimmerer puts it, ‘all flourishing is mutual’. We do not exist in vacuums; we are profoundly interconnected. We cannot truly thrive while others suffer. We are not truly free until everyone is free.
Zines have always been a powerful tool for building community, fostering resistance, and (re-)imagining a better world. They offer a creative way to imagine futures where everyone feels heard.
In the spirit of our zine workshop’s theme of solidarity and community, this event will be a fundraiser for The Sameer Project, a mutual aid initiative that supports the most vulnerable communities in Gaza. While it is essential to make time and space for community, we want to remain aware of the privilege we have by living in Luxembourg. The resources and comfort we often take for granted do not exist in Gaza, where people have to continuously put up with systemic oppression, genocide and apartheid. This is why we hope to express our solidarity with the people of Gaza by dedicating this fundraiser to them. Our donation-based entry fee functions on a pay-what-you-can basis, in the spirit of other mutual aid events déi aner has organized in the past.
