October 2025

Yes, fall is here, for better or worse. Fall as autumn of course, not yet as the fall of patriarchy, capitalism, fascism, and hegemonic systems of the like. But while we work on this, the change of season can also be accompanied by some creative and intellectual activities: that’s why the unmissables are here to let you know what you can do this month!

Design as Cultural Editing

Mike Meiré reflects on four decades of practice at the intersection of art, branding, and cultural production.

Drawing from his early influences in subculture and personal identity construction, Mike Meiré examines how emotional and aesthetic instincts evolve into strategic design methodologies. Through a series of case studies and personal insights, he explores branding not just as communication, but as a form of cultural authorship and self-invention.

Mike Meiré (born 1964) lives and works in Cologne with his wife and three children. In the mid-1980s, he co-founded the agency Meiré und Meiré with his brother Marc Meiré. In 2001, he launched the cultural production company NEO NOTO to further explore his fascination with the cultural dimensions of branding.

Since then, Meiré has collaborated with both national and international brands such as MINI, BMW, Telekom, Dornbracht, LAMY, and SPRIN‑D, as well as with magazines operating at the intersection of culture and design. His interdisciplinary approach — dissolving boundaries between art, branding, and design — allows him to work fluidly as an art director, brand director, designer, curator, and artist. As an art director, he has played a defining role in shaping the visual identity of numerous influential publications, including brand eins, 032c, ARCH+, BLAU International, GARAGE, and the NZZ. His projects reflect a deep engagement with aesthetic and cultural discourse, affirming his significance in the contemporary creative landscape. Meiré has received numerous awards for his work, including the Visual Lead Award in Germany in 2006. In 2015, he was appointed an honorary member of the German Designer Club (DDC) in recognition of his lifetime achievements.

Building on the format of the CasinoBookClub, which has been running successfully for the past two years, we are excited to introduce the Casino____Club. In this new series of artist talks, artists will present some of their key influences through various forms such as music and/or video—not limited to books alone.

At the heart of this concept is the idea that artists come to share their creative work while also exploring different influences that have inspired or shaped their artistic journey.

Sam Erpelding is a sound engineer, sound artist, and ecoacoustician. He completed his studies in Sound Engineering, Computer Music and Digital Media Technologies in Austria. As an electric guitarist he performs in various formations, including the trio “ARGON“. Under the pseudonym „Dankwart“ Sam has been publishing his compositions since 2014.

He is co-founder of the Luxembourgish art collective „D’Kréiennascht“ and since 2021 member of the radio art network of the Greater Region „Radiôme“. He is currently doing his doctorate at the Anton-Bruckner Private University in Linz in cooperation with the Paris-London University Salzburg, the Donau-Auen and Kalkalpen National Park (Au). As part of his current research, he received a research grant from the Nationalpark Austria.

Black History Month – African Glory.

Screening @ Rotondes

© Giovanni Quene

African memory and heritage on screen.

One hundred and eighty years before Christopher Columbus, Emperor Abu Bakr set sail with an armada of 2,000 ships to cross the Atlantic. He never returned. This little-known story, like so many others forgotten from African history, is at the heart of African Glory, a socially conscious film that restores Africa's place in the grand tapestry of world history.

Directed by Thierry Bugaud, African Glory immerses us in the explorations, struggles, independence movements, and pan-African figures that have shaped humanity but have often been overshadowed by official narratives. Through rare archival footage and passionate testimonies, this film invites us to deconstruct myths and rehabilitate a historical and universal heritage.

The screening will be followed by a panel discussion with director Thierry Bugaud, who will share his artistic and historical approach, behind-the-scenes stories from the shoot, and his vision of the role of cinema in building collective memory. This discussion will give the audience an opportunity to ask questions and reflect collectively on the significance of African narratives in our societies today.

As part of Intersex Awareness Week 2025.

How can one find their place in a binary society, divided between women and men, when neither category fits them? Who I Am Not, the documentary by Tünde Skovrán, gives voice to the still little-known reality of intersex people.

Through the intimate stories of Sharon-Rose Khumalo, a beauty queen, and Dimakatso Sebidi, a passionate activist, the film highlights the struggles and hopes of two individuals concerned. More than just a documentary, Who I Am Not is a personal journey, it is a quest for identity and belonging.

After the screening, an informal discussion with Dr. Erik Schneider from Intersex & Transgender Luxembourg and Ursula Rosen will give the audience the opportunity to explore the themes in greater depth. This discussion will take place in German, while the Film in English, with French subtitles.

Join us for a new Cosy Season around bookbinding!

Cosy Season is a collaborative programme that promotes community involvement and cultural exchange. The goal is to offer opportunities for artistic exploration and encounters, while encouraging creativity and personal expression.

This edition offers local associations and the general public a guided tour of Eleanor Antin’s exhibition. This activity will be made in the presence of the artist Viktoria Vanyi, followed by a bookbinding workshop.

Participants will create a leporello; an accordion-fold book made out of paper, textile, polaroid photos and drawings. Everyone can create a personal object that can become a personal archive. Inspired by Eleanor Antin’s exploration of identity through self-transformation and storytelling, everyone can create a personal archive that can grow over time.

Everyone is free to join; we are happy to welcome you at the museum!

Biography.

Viktoria Vanyi is an interdisciplinary artist born in Hungary and based in Luxembourg since 2021. She studied industrial design in Brussels and her approach places lived experiences at the core of her work. She explores themes of rootedness, memory and cultural hybridity, focusing on the spaces between belonging and uprooting. Using analogue techniques such as cyanotype, photography and site-specific installations, she creates tactile narratives that reflect on what it means to feel at home, in a place, a language or a body. Her practice functions as both an archive and a dialogue, revealing subtle layers of identity, heritage, and collective memory, while inviting viewers to reflect on the fluid nature of belonging in today’s world.
