Event tips from Luxembourg's cultural landscape for February: 360° artistic events, from parties to conferences, including amazing shows and instructive classes

A "boum" also known as a party or dance party, is a social event where people gather to dance, socialize, and have fun. Often organized to celebrate a special occasion, a boum is characterized by a festive and relaxed atmosphere.
La boum is back for a second edition on Saturday, 1st February 2025 starting at 10:00 PM at the event venue "Encore", located behind Chouchou.
This location is more spacious and suitable to offer you a great Saturday night fever experience. The formula remains the same: good music, food and beverage at a reasonable price, party atmosphere, and now with a larger dance floor and many entertainments to make this first Boum a new must-attend event.

Shoe-Field (1982–89) consists of materials that artist Sonya Rapoport (1923, Brookline – 2015, Berkeley) created over the years through her interactive works on shoes. ‘My work is an aesthetic response triggered by scientific data’, said Rapoport. Now on show at Mudam, Rapoport’s display was conceived to be accompanied by a participative performance, A Shoe-In, where the participants were encouraged to reflect on their shoes through an interactive survey.
In this activation of Rapoport’s work, Mudam’s visitors will get the chance to interact with its original software, compare their results with the first iterations of the work, and discover what their own shoe psyche has to say.
As Shoe-Field humorously brings emotions into quantitative analysis and the technological realm, all participants will get to be part of a bigger project, transcending borders, institutions, and the expected uses of technology. The participation in the performance at Mudam will outlast the exhibition in Luxembourg, as the next presentation of the show will take place at Kunsthalle Wien.

Amazones Chapter 1: Marielle – Laura Arend
This delicate duet explores the twists and turns of motherhood, between desire and rejection, between hope and renunciation. Marielle is an ode to the fundamental right to choose, a fight for women’s emancipation, a whisper and a cry in equal measure. On stage, two bodies in dialogue dance the complexity of emotions, doubts, rebellions and silences. For beyond judgements and laws, the ultimate choice lies with the woman who carries within her life and freedom. Marielle is the first chapter in the Amazones dance series.
R I S I N G – Marielle Morales
R I S I N G is a performance about ecology, interconnections and the dialogue between humans and nature. Inspired by the book L’intelligence des plantes (by Stefano Mancuso and Alessandra Viola), Marielle Morales tries to find ways – sensory, poetic and choreographic – of making visible the interconnection between nature and humans, in terms of power grabs, visible or invisible links, forms and means of communication… In a dialogue that is sometimes absurd and light-hearted, sometimes frightening, Nature’s ‘voice’ takes the form of sound waves that set liquid and solid materials in motion. R I S I N G is an ode to the biosphere and the relationships we all have with nature.
Du Battement des Jours – Maya Balam Mayong
Through images, movement and words, exploring the intimacy of three characters and their conflicts, the film delves into the subtle search for the rhythms of our lives, between poetry and dream.

Six authors, four languages, three literary genres - that is Lëtzebuerger Literatur(en).
Since 2010, the Kulturfabrik, in collaboration with the CNL, has been presenting the special diversity of literary production made in Luxembourg at the beginning of the year. At the reading evening in the Escher Kulturfabrik, half a dozen published writers present their latest works and provide an insight into the country's rich literary landscape.
This year, on Tuesday 4 February, Anne-Marie Reuter, Carla Lucarelli, Christiane Kremer, Ian De Toffoli, Jhemp Hoscheit and Luc François will be reading.
We have invited the artist Eric Foy to be in charge of the evening's musicality.

The conference-debate is moderated by journalist Diego Velazquez.
Europe, the continent of the Enlightenment, presents itself as cosmopolitan, democratic, tolerant and open. At least, that's the image that most political leaders in Western Europe try to convey. But is it really true? Has racism, which we associate with times long past and thankfully gone by, really disappeared from the public and private spheres? Or is it manifesting itself today in more subtle, and at the same time more insidious, ways? Perhaps it goes unnoticed simply because the public arena gives little visibility to so-called ‘racialised’ people?
Rokhaya Diallo, a journalist and film-maker renowned the world over for her outspokenness and expertise, will address these questions at a conference-debate organised as part of the Pure Europe exhibition.

Double exhibition opening @ Mudam
Programme:
19:00 Opening speech by Bettina Steinbrügge, Director Mudam Luxembourg
19:30 Artist Talk with Ho Tzu Nyen
Time & the Tiger is the most significant exhibition of the work of Ho Tzu Nyen (1976, Singapore) presented to date in Europe. For more than two decades, Ho’s films, installations and virtual reality artworks relentlessly push the boundaries of moving image. At the heart of his artistic practice is a reflection on history: the way it is written and transmitted, and the role narratives, myths and fiction play in its construction. Ho’s questions on history are embodied in works that take as their starting point the context of Southeast Asia – a region whose unity lies in its plurality and transformation. The exhibition gathers several of Ho’s major installations, among them the important new production T for Time (2023–ongoing). Programmed through an algorithm, this two-channel projection brings together references and anecdotes from various cultural contexts, both European and Asian, to offer a profound meditation on the notion of time.
American artist Lisa Oppenheim (1975, New York) has been invited to create a new body of work in response to the artistic practice of Edward Steichen (1879, Bivange, Luxembourg – 1973, Redding, Connecticut). Oppenheim’s exhibition explores peripheral and often lesser-known aspects of the work of the Luxembourg-born American photographer and exhibition curator: his paintings, which he abandoned and largely destroyed in the 1920s; his lifelong passion for flowers, particularly Delphiniums, of which he created several varieties and his textile designs from the 1920s, based on photographs of everyday objects. ‘Steichen’s wide-ranging practice is hard to imagine in our age of hyper-specialisation,’ Oppenheim observes. ‘In this exhibition, I would like to inhabit the practice of Steichen rather than examine any particular project. I plan to do with the work of Steichen what he did throughout his own long life: inhabit his tendency to ingest and reconstitute a wide range of practices and ideas and in that way hopefully expand an understanding of what it is to be a cultural producer.’

On February 19, the Kufa will welcome Diana Burkot, a member of the Russian artistic and activist collective PUSSY RIOT, and New Age Doom, a collective/platform formed around the duo made by Eric J. Breitenbach and Greg, who are specialised in completely unique live performances that don't fit into any musical box.
Diana Burkot is a Moscow-based drummer, producer and sound artist. She has been passionate about drums and electronic music since the age of 18 and has become a key figure in Moscow's DIY music scene. She performs in various projects, including the no-wave inspired synthesiser trio Fanny Kaplan, the feminist performance art group Pripoy and her solo project Rosemary Loves A Blackberry. She is also known as the drummer, singer and activist of the feminist band Pussy Riot, for which she had to flee from the Russian police to Ukraine in 2011.
She has toured extensively abroad, sharing the stage with renowned experimental and rock bands such as Soft Moon, Japanther and Inga Copeland.
New Age Doom is known for its energetic live shows and immersive sound. Made up of lead duo Eric J. Breitenbach and Greg Valou and a roster of international musical talents, New Age Doom is a genre-defying platform for experimentation and collaboration, where many musical and aesthetic interests are combined to create powerful sonic statements.
The band's music blends elements of drone metal and progressive rock with jazz, dub and very different styles of music to create a unique and immersive sound that has been acclaimed by critics and audiences alike.
New Age Doom is more than a band: it's an artistic philosophy.
